Deposition and swath testing of the Thrush 510P

In August of this year, Thrush Aircraft, Inc. contracted with me to conduct a series of tests with various spray volumes and equipment to determine the effective swath width for the Thrush G510P aircraft with various spray volumes and drop sizes. The goal was to maximize productivity. The aircraft was flown by Thrush Aircraft’s Terry Humphrey at the Thrush factory in Albany, Georgia. The flying speed for all treatments was 140 mph. The aircraft was outfitted with several nozzle/atomizer set ups; FF1550 (flat fan), FF6510, CPllTT, D8-45, D4-45 and Micronair AU5000 rotary atomizers. Weather conditions were hot and dry with temperatures up to 37°C (98°F) and relative humidity as low as 45%. Under more normal spraying conditions with chemical products the droplet sizes collected would be larger, since it would suffer less from evaporation loss.

Covington Aircraft and Turbine Conversions, Ltd. Partner up To Provide First Turbo Cat produced in Almost 20 Years.

Recently TCL’s Chief Engineer, Larry Hatcher, visited us at Covington Aircraft and together we installed the first Turbo Cat/P&W conversion package on Mike Gasper’s Ag Cat. The Ag Cat came in with a Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Radial Engine and is leaving with a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-15AG Turbine (680 HSP).
